Professor Victor Zackay passed away on March 14, 2015, at the age of 94.

Professor Zackay joined our department in 1962, and in his career he supervised over 100 graduate students.  He was an Associate Dean in the College of Engineering, and Associate Director for Research at LBNL.  He received a number of awards for his work in academia, and also collaborated closely with industry.  He was a member of the Johnson and Johnson team that designed and produced ultra-high strength corrosion resistant steel needles used in cardiovascular and ophthalmic wound closures, and he also worked to produce the coatings used for years on the TWIN TRAC Gillette razors.  After 17 years at the University he retired early to found the company Materials and Methods, Inc., where he worked until his retirement in 1989.

Professor Zackay is survived by his wife, Lillian Marie Sherdal, as well as family in California and Illinois.
