Professor Ritchie awarded ASME Robert Henry Thurston Award

MSE's own Professor Robert Ritchie has been named the 2022 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Robert Henry Thurston Awardee. Robert Henry Thurston was the first President of ASME and the award was established in 1925 to "provide an opportunity for a leader in pure and/or applied science or engineering to present to the Society a lecture that encourages stimulating thinking on a subject of broad interest to engineers". Professor Ritchie's specific honor is for his "seminal contributions to the understanding of the mechanics and mechanisms of the deformation and fracture properties of biological and engineering materials, and how those can be used to enhance the damage tolerance of structural materials." Congratulations to Professor Ritchie on this well deserved honor.
