MSE Alumnus Calton Kong has been named a winner of a prestigious Hertz Foundation Fellowship (link to award announcement). The Hertz Foundation Fellowship, which is the most competitive PhD fellowship program in science and engineering in the United States, supports doctoral students whose research shows “the greatest potential to tackle society’s most urgent problems.” Calton has been performing research in sustainable energy conversion and, continuing as PhD student this fall in UCB MSE, will work toward the science and policy that will transform chemical manufacturing and our nation's electrical grid. Calton has also been awarded the 2024 MSE Department Citation.
