Subject: Big Give is coming on March 14 - Join me!

Dear alumni, colleagues, and friends of UC Berkeley Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE),

Berkeley’s annual day of giving --- Big Give --- is happening next week, starting at 9 pm on Wednesday, March 13th and ending at 9 pm on Thursday, March 14th. This is a day where the MSE community rallies together to reach new heights of excellence and empower our students to be change-makers for good.

As the MSE department chair, I want to encourage everyone to consider making a gift to the MSE fund during Big Give. The giving link will become activated at 9 pm on Wed. Your generosity provides flexible funds for MSE to innovate, respond to student needs, and advance research at the frontier!

This year, we have a generous $10K Big Match from S.S. Lau (PhD ’69), USCD Professor Emeritus. Graduating 55 years ago from Berkeley Engineering, he remains a loyal supporter of Cal! Thank you, Professor Lau, for your big heart and tremendous support!

Professor Lau will make a gift of $500 for every gift donated to Materials Science and Engineering, up to $10,000. Will you help us unlock our entire Big Match for MSE?

A big thank you to Arun Sarin (MS ’78), and Billy Jingyang Guan (BS ’13) and his wife, Yiwen Sun for making early launch gifts and giving us a head start on our Big Give goal.

We are proud to educate the best Materials Scientists and Engineers in the world, and look forward to reconnecting with you in person soon. Wishing you and yours all the best in this new year! Go Bears!

Sincerely,

Junqiao Wu

Chair, Department of Materials Science and Engineering

As always, MSE at UC Berkeley news can be found here, and you can keep in touch via social media with InstagramFacebookX (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn. There are many exciting developments within the department, and your contributions to the Big Give support the transformative experiences our students have.

In the spirit of Big Give, you may also receive emails from other UC Berkeley programs or receive multiple emails from MSE. Please forgive our enthusiasm --- it is for a good cause!
